Dear Graduating Senior:
At the Spring 2008 commencement ceremony, the Dean's Office will honor one student as the Gator Engineering Two-Year Scholar (junior-level matriculant) and one student as the Gator Engineering Four-Year Scholar (freshman-level matriculant). The Graduation Awards Committee makes the selections based on a broad definition of scholastic achievement for the scholar awards. Overall grade point average is important, but the committee also considers academic awards, honoraria, research projects, published papers, conference presentations and honors theses.
For the Speaker awards, the Faculty Advisory Committee considers the draft of your speech to be the most important factor in awarding this honor. The ability to articulate ideas in a concise manner, uniqueness of content, and overall quality are heavily considered. The committee is in search of a male and female who have "something to say" to their fellow Engineering graduates, and who are comfortable speaking in front of large groups. Your speech will be a reflection of your experiences here at UF and will be approximately three minutes long.
Your current grade point average qualifies you for consideration for the Scholar award (the Speaker Awards require only a minimum GPA of 2.50).
Please complete the online application by Thursday, March 6, 2008, at 4 p.m. You may apply for just one award or both awards.
Congratulations on your upcoming graduation from the University of Florida!
Sincerely,
Angela Lindner
