Clear That Cache... Ugh, Not Again!?!?

In the past, there was a running joke to not call MIS with a computer problem unless you'd rebooted your computer first. Well, it's a new day and there is a running joke about not calling Bridges with PeopleSoft problems unless you've cleared your cache and deleted your cookies. While not a tedious process it does take a few moments to perform and can be a little inconvienent.

Wouldn't you just love it if a single click on a toolbar button would do this for you? It can!

In our endeavors to find easier solutions to common tasks and problems we have found a nifty Internet Explorer add-on that does just that. It is really simple to install, and can be done by you in less time than it takes to clear your cache.

Installation How-To:

  1. Close all open browsers:
It is important to not have any Internet Explorer windows open at the time you install this program. So make sure you close all IE windows. Wait till you read the rest of this article before closing this window.

  1. Find the program's installer:
The program you are installing is called CachePal and is already downloaded and stored at J:\APPS\UTILS\. By clicking this link Windows Explorer will open, showing the location of the install file (this window is safe to keep open during the install).

If you need to download the program, visit bartdart.com, the CachePal website. Please note: due to software restriction policies on COE admin computers, you will not be able to install from this download. You must use the downloaded version available on the J: drive.

  1. Start the program's install:
The installation of CachePal will begin once you double-click the application file (pictured to the right). A Welcome dialog will appear with some information about installing Cachepal. As this dialog directs, click the Next button to start the install.

  1. Finish the program's install:
When the install is complete you will see an Installation Complete dialog box. This box will explain the next steps to completing the install and are included, and better explained, here. Click the Finish button to close this dialog.

  2. Open Internet Explorer:
Now that the program is successfully installed, open Internet Explorer again.

  1. Customize the toolbar:
Right-click anywhere on the IE toolbar (#1) and choose Customize... from the resulting context menu.

  1. Add the CachePal button:
Find the Cachepal button (a recycle bin) by scrolling down in the Available toolbar buttons area of the dialog (#1). Once you find it, single-click the icon so that it is highlighted and then single-click the Add button (#2). The CachePal button will now be listed in the Current toolbar buttons area and be displayed on IE's standard toolbar. You can click the Close button (#3) to finish this process.

  2. Okay... BEGIN:
Now that you've read through the entire process, close this browser window and begin the installation. You may want to print these directions for later reference.

You are now done installing the program. Now, whenever you need to delete your cookies and clear your cache just run CachePal by single- clicking the recycle-bin button on IE's standard toolbar.
