Yes, access to your network drives is available to you remotely through a
Novell server application called NetStorage. Read more about this
in the Accessing Your Network Drive From Home article.
Simple answer: yes... but you'll need to talk to us first.
Complicated answer: Remote desktop connections are possible
but are not recommended since they present a complex set of security problems
that need to be addressed. Instead, we encourage you to look into using
NetStorage for access to your network drives.
We recognize that there are instances where a remote desktop connection
is necessary. Because of this we have made a way that this is possible but
certain procedures and considerations need to be followed:
Remote desktop connections are only available using approved
software (in order for us to correctly monitor for security / bug fixes
for it).
You must have a valid work purpose for needing a remote desktop
connection.
Your supervisor must approve your request.
You must review remote desktop connection logs and report any suspicious
connections.
Remote desktop should only be enabled during periods when you expect
to need it. It should not be left on at all times.
These instructions are for Engineering administrative
workstations that have the Novell NetWare client installed:
1.
Once you are successfully logged into the
workstation press
the following three keys at the same time: Ctrl-Alt-
Del. When this is done you'll see the Network
Security popup window (example to the right).
2.
On the Netware Security popup, click the
Change Password button located at the bottom of the
window.
3.
Once the Change Password button is
clicked you will see the Change Password popup window
(example to the right).
4.
Insure that all resources are highlighted (the
top one will by your machine's name and the second one will be
the engineering tree). By highlighting all resources,
the passwords for each resource will be changed and kept the
same, or in sync.
5.
Once you have filled in the Old Password,
New Password, and Confirm New Password form
fields click the OK button.
6.
If the process worked correctly you will see the following
message in a popup: Passwords for all selected resources
were successfully changed
Using Windows Explorer this is a relatively simple task
to perform.
Open Windows Explorer and browse to the drive and
folder where the file was deleted.
Right-click the folder and select Salvage Files...
from the context-menu. (An example is to the right.)
From the Salvage
Network Files dialog (click to see an example) find
the file
that was deleted and click the Salvage File button at
the bottom of the screen. You can click on the column
headings, 'File Name' / 'Date Deleted' / 'Time Deleted' / etc,
to sort the table in order to find your file.
