Broad Services
MIS will act as the central point of contact between the COE and other University of Florida entities for any projects, surveys, committees, and/or meetings which require College-wide involvement. MIS will relay appropriate information to departments in order to inform departmental network administrators and to obtain feedback when necessary.

This will include services such as:

  • Information Technology liaison and mediator for the College to other UF entities.
  • Network security coordination for the College of Engineering
  • Research, coordination, and administration of various college and university-wide site license agreements (anti-virus, Novell, Maple, Scholarpac, LabView, etc)
  • Network infrastructure support (support on hub, switch, and router configuration, maintenance, and upgrades)
  • Internet point of presence for the College of Engineering (web, ftp, etc)

Specific Services
In addition to the broad services outlined above, MIS will provide specific services to College of Engineering Departments and Centers. These are available for your Department to take advantage of as you deem appropriate.

  • Use of the main College of Engineering mail server (including, but not limited to, mail accounts, eng.ufl.edu aliases, and email lists)
  • Use of the main College of Engineering web server
  • DNS primary and secondary source of authorities for Engineering domains and subnets
  • Consultation on security incidents to help investigate, clean, and secure servers/workstations which are compromised
  • Proactive security consultation and resources (such as subnet security scans, COE security listserv and website for security related issues, best practice recommendations, server security auditing (checking configurations for security problems), etc)
  • Resource to departmental system administrators on a consultant basis for most computer hardware and software related questions (UNIX, Netware, Windows, CISCO IOS, etc)
  • Support to the Department or Center for critical problems when the system administrator is unavailable (vacation, sick, vacant position, etc).

Fee Structure
College of Engineering departments will pay $1,000 at the begining of each fiscal year for the services outlined in this agreement. Additional consulting and tech support services on most computer hardware and software problems can be obtained through MIS on a contracted or pay-per-use ($55/hr) basis.
