The University of Florida has signed a license agreement that authorizes the
installation of Microsoft Windows OSes, Microsoft Office, and other MS software on
any computer owned by the University. Access to the software available through Microsoft
Volume Licenseing Services (MVLS) for the College of Engineering is provided through
your unit's contact person.
If your name does not appear on these lists and you believe it should be please contact
Shawn Lander. Keep in mind, authorization for access
to MVLS is governed by the following guidelines:
The primary systems administrator and at least one backup (preferably the supervisor) should be authorized. Larger departments may have more than one backup.
Students, graduate students, and part-time/OPS staff should not be authorized.
Faculty should not be authorized unless they are the supervisor of IT staff.
Not all departmental IT staff are authorized... only those established as MIS departmental contacts are given access.
Research units / Centers / etc that have their own IT staff and are not located close to their parent department should be considered for authorization. In as much as possible they should be directed to contact their parent department or MIS for access to check-out media.
All contacts will be removed and forced to be reauthorized at the end of every
fiscal year. This will insure that only current College of Engineering IT staff
continue to have access to the MVLS. It is the unit's responsibility to notify
MIS of changes in MVLS access that may be caused by staff turnover, promotion,
or change of job duties.
OBTAINING WORK-AT-HOME MEDIA KITS
MIS has begun purchasing WAH media kits in bulk in order to have them on hand for easy
distribution within the College. However, we are not doing this for free. You will be asked
to supply your unit's chart field string in order to process an E2E against the original
purchase. Please fill out the WAH Media Kit Request
form and send it through campus mail to MIS at PO Box 116550. Upon receiving the form the
MIS software license coordinator will contact you to verify the order and arrange to send you the
requested software.
WAH media kits can also be purchased at the UF Bookstore. Details of purchasing
can be found on the "Work At Home" media program
webpage maintained by Software Licensing Services.
