Dr. Eugene Richard Chenette passed away on December 7, 2014 at the age of 86. He had been living in Plano, Texas, where he retired to with Helen, his wife of 63 years.

Chenette served as a former chair of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and a former associate dean for external programs in the College of Engineering. He was a pioneer, a leader and an innovator in the emerging field of transistors, integrated circuits and digital devices.

He served four year on active duty in the US Air Force, in Korea, before completing his bachelors, masters and doctoral degrees at the University of Minnesota. He taught there for a short while before spending many years at the University of Florida, and at the National Science Foundation.
