August 16, 2010

NIH decided to eliminate the error correction window from the electronic grant application submission process. This change takes effect for submission deadlines on January 25, 2011 and beyond (see NOT-OD-10-123). For deadlines on or after January 25, 2011, all applications must be error free by the deadline.

Applicants will no longer have time after the deadline to address NIH system-identified errors/warnings in their applications. However, applicants still will have the two-business-day application viewing window to view their assembled application image before the deadline. The viewing window is an applicant’s one chance to view his or her grant application just as the NIH reviewers will see it.

This new year, make a resolution to plan ahead and submit your grant applications early, especially NIH grant applications. Submitting early remains the best way to ensure successful electronic submissions.
