A windsurfer sail inspired a UF aerospace engineer to design a radio-controlled micro-aerial vehicle with a flexible wing only 4.5 inches across.
Robot orange pickers developed by UF agricultural engineers may become a common sight in Florida's groves if they can help make harvesting less expensive and more efficient.
SubjuGator is an automated submarine designed by electrical engineering students in the Machine Intelligence lab. Each year, students redesign and enter the device in a contest sponsored by the Navy.
The Center for Intelligent Machines and Robotics specializes in automated vehicles. For more than 30 years, CIMAR has built everything from small-scale helicopters to large hazardous materials handlers that can go inside nuclear reactors. CIMAR also has an automated car called NaviGator that could win the college a $2 million prize in the upcoming 2005 Grand Challenge race sponsored by the Department of Defense.
