The Division of Student Affairs provides a variety of programs for middle and high school students, incoming freshmen and community college transfer students. The new student programs are designed to enhance incoming students' academic, personal, social and professional development. The middle and high school student programs are intended to promote student development, math and science education and the engineering profession. All of these programs are mentor-based and require the help of currently enrolled engineering students who are willing to serve as role models and mentors for younger students. Some positions are paid, some are volunteer positions, some require short-term commitments and some require long-term commitments. See below for information on specific programs.
ACCESS: Accelerating Community College Engineering Success Skills
A four-week program that provides academic enhancement for freshman community college students pursuing
engineering degrees. One-year commitment required. Paid positions.
EFTP: Engineering Freshman Transition Program
The Engineering Freshman Transition Program (EFTP) is a residential program open to all incoming fall first-year engineering students. The program is offered during summer B as a two-credit course, EFTP, taken along with regular classes. Students in the program adjust to the level, speed and style of college instruction in foundation courses (Calculus & Chemistry). The program combines peer mentoring with team-building, student success tools, and academic enhancement classes for new engineering students.In order to apply for these positions you must be available and enrolled in Summer B
for both of the upcoming fall and spring semesters. Paid positions.
Engineering Summer Camps
Serve as an on-campus camp counselor for middle school and/or high school students. One-week commitment. Paid positions.
Gator Shadow Day
Be a mentor-for-a-day to a high school or community college student. 3.0+ GPA required. One-day commitment.
Volunteer positions.
Transfer Student Mentoring Program
Mentor new engineering transfer students, help coordinate the Gator Engineering Transfer Workshop,
and more. One year commitment required. Paid positions.
GatorTrax
Promotes math and science education among middle and high school students.
Freshman Recruiting Phonathons
Be a mentor for one evening! Call prospective students who have applied to UF and provide them with
information on the College of Engineering. Two to four-hour commitment. Spring semester only. Volunteer
positions.
STEPUP
Promotes academic and personal success for minority freshman engineering students. One-year commitment
required. Paid positions.
