Want a quick and easy way to add leadership experience to your resume or scholarship application? Then volunteer to be a mentor for the upcoming Gator Shadow Day! On Wednesday, February 21, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., the UF College of Engineering invites Florida high school seniors who have recently been admitted to UF to campus to show them what a typical day in the life of an engineering student is like and to encourage their interest in pursuing an engineering degree.
Volunteers will act as a mentor-for-a-day to a high school student. As a volunteer, you will take your student to your classes, labs, meetings, etc. You might also take him or her on a quick tour of the campus, give tips on the "ins and outs" of college life, and generally serve as a positive role model. On February 21, you will pick your student up in the Rion Ballroom at 10:25 a.m. and then be off on your own. You should finish your day with the student between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
If you want to be an inspiration and role model to up and coming students, then please complete the following application. To qualify, you must have a 3.0+ GPA. Note also, that there will be an orientation meeting for all mentors on Thursday, February 15, at 6:15 p.m. in 270 Weil Hall.
