There is considerable international activity at Gator Engineering. We have exchange or cooperative programs with 18 universities, centers or boards located in France, Korea, Australia, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Spain, China, Equador, Brazil, Qatar, Russia, Sweden, and Vietnam. Departments are heavily engaged in faculty and student exchanges, joint research ventures, short courses, visitations, study abroad, and other mutually beneficial programs. Of our current graduate students, 52% are international students.
The University of Florida is a wonderful place for international students. Our faculty and students come to us from all over the world, which makes the campus and surrounding community a unique blend of culture and tradition. The Gator Engineering faculty is a distinguished group of accomplished researchers and industry leaders. Many of them were once international students themselves, even. With an innovative curriculum, we teach our students in the classroom. We believe learning shouldn't be confined to lectures and books, though, so we also use our labs as teaching tools to train students. Almost from the very beginning of their time in our college, students are encouraged to conduct hands-on, multi-disciplinary research. We have a constant stream of funding coming into our college to support our research initiatives, also. In 2005, we expect to spend more than $100 million towards research. Clubs and international student organizations make the transition easier and provide a natural starting place for making friends when you arrive in the U.S. Our staff and faculty members are also ready to help you however they can. even before you arrive, we're happy to assist you with your application or talk with you about our college.
Students will tell you that the international student experience includes more than simply pursuing an academic degree, though. It's a chance to see the world, explore a new culture and make lifelong friends from around the globe. At the University of Florida, you'll have every opportunity for success available to you, both academically and socially.
We have agreements with more than a dozen educational institutions around the world. We work with these universities regularly, both by sending them our students and by receiving their students. If you'd like to spend a semester or two studying abroad, talk with your advisor about the opportunities for international studies.
