Title:
ABE Biocomplexity Engineering seminar:”Trade-off between short-term resilience and long-term sustainability: Analysis of a minimalistic stochastic model”
Bio:
Dr. Rachata Muneepeerakul, who goes by “Chot,” is a Professor in the Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering at the University of Florida, where he develops mathematical and computational models to study complex systems, including social‑ecological and infrastructure systems, and their dynamics, resilience, and sustainability. He earned his PhD degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Princeton University and has published widely in leading interdisciplinary journals – he has worked on a wide variety of problems, ranging from life to social sciences, from biodiversity patterns in river networks to dynamics of coupled natural-human systems. Among his investigative tools are mathematical and computational models, dynamical system models, complex network analysis, game theoretic approaches, and stochastic modeling. When possible, he likes to combine these approaches to develop a stylized, simple model that yields clear results that shed light on phenomena in complex systems. This talk reflects this latter approach where he applies it to the resilience and sustainability of infrastructure systems.
