SUMMARY:ABE Biocomplexity Engineering seminar
DESCRIPTION:Speaker:\nDr. Rachata Muneepeerakul\n\nTitle:\nABE Biocomplexi
ty Engineering seminar:"Trade-off between short-term resilience and long-t
erm sustainability: Analysis of a minimalistic stochastic model"\n\nBio:\n
Dr. Rachata Muneepeerakul\, who goes by “Chot\,” is a Professor in th
e Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering at the University
of Florida\, where he develops mathematical and computational models to s
tudy complex systems\, including social‑ecological and infrastructure sy
stems\, and their dynamics\, resilience\, and sustainability.  He earned
his PhD degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Princeton Univ
ersity and has published widely in leading interdisciplinary journals –
he has worked on a wide variety of problems\, ranging from life to social
sciences\, from biodiversity patterns in river networks to dynamics of co
upled natural-human systems.  Among his investigative tools are mathemati
cal and computational models\, dynamical system models\, complex network a
nalysis\, game theoretic approaches\, and stochastic modeling.  When poss
ible\, he likes to combine these approaches to develop a stylized\, simple
model that yields clear results that shed light on phenomena in complex s
ystems. This talk reflects this latter approach where he applies it to th
e resilience and sustainability of infrastructure systems.
