 reement in participant beliefs regarding success."\nBio:\nMason Mathews is
  an assistant professor in the Geography Department at Florida State Unive
 rsity. He graduated from the University of Florida’s Interdisciplinary E
 cology doctoral program (Human Geography) and worked extensively with UF
 ’s Center for Latin American Studies. Mason is interested in social netw
 orks and social capital theories and methods and how they can be combined 
 with geographic information systems to understand how communities and indi
 viduals respond to social\, economic\, and environmental shocks. Mason is 
 also interested in how qualitative ‘thick’ data can be combined with q
 uantitative ‘big data’ to enhance our understanding of human behavior.
  As a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Colorado Boulder’s Na
 tural Hazard Center\, he worked on convergence research designed to enhanc
 e collaboration between hazards and disaster researchers. As an assistant 
 research professor at Arizona State University\, he studied academic-nonpr
 ofit partnerships\, including the research he will present in this webinar
 .
