Dr. Sandra Guzmán
Title:
Data-Based Solutions for Agricultural Water Management with User-Inspired Decision Support Systems
Bio:
Dr. Sandra M. Guzmán is an assistant professor of smart irrigation and hydrology in the Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering at the Indian River Research and Education Center in Fort Pierce, FL. Her research program focuses on implementing sustainable solutions for agricultural water management, using sensor networks and data analytics to optimize water use efficiency and crop productivity. Through field studies, Dr. Guzmán collaborates closely with farmers and industry partners to develop technological solutions that take a bottom-up approach. Her research considers the socio-economic and environmental factors at the intersection of technology and society. Her team is actively involved in the development of decision support systems and technologies that promote water conservation from crop production. From the hydrological side, they also study the effects of land use and land management on the sustainability of freshwater systems. Dr. Guzmán’s extension program focuses on improving stakeholder’s capacity to make informed water management decisions in crop production using knowledge and data-based approaches. Dr Guzmán holds a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in Agricultural Engineering and a Ph.D. in Biological Engineering- water resources concentration
