Antonio Farias
Chief Diversity Officer,
Senior Advisor to the President,
University of Florida

A crucial conversation is a discussion between two or more people where the stakes are high, opinions vary, and emotions run strong. These conversations—when handled poorly or ignored—lead to strained relationships and ineffective units. However, when you can speak and be heard (and encourage others to do the same), you’ll surface the best ideas, make the highest- and then act on your decisions with unity and commitment. This 1-hr primer will serve as an opportunity to kick the tires on the full one and two-day workshops being conducted at UF.

Antonio Farias joined the University of Florida in 2018 as its first chief diversity officer and senior advisor to the president. He oversees university-wide efforts to advance The Big I.D.E.A! – Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, & Access. He was previously vice president for equity and inclusion at Wesleyan University and, before that, the inaugural chief diversity officer for the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. Farias has bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of California, Berkeley, and a master of fine arts from the University of California, Riverside. He worships his daughter, reenergizes through a plant-based diet, runs ultra-marathons to test the limits of WHY, fly fishes to commune with the Divine, and believes failure is the greatest teacher. He is currently failing to publish his first novel.
