Engineering Ethics – Workplace Risks & Remedies

Amid the pressures and demands of our challenging professional environment, ethics remains a cornerstone of our personal integrity and our organization’s reputation. Yet, despite these high stakes for ourselves, our careers and our companies, unethical behavior still occurs. This presentation will explore the primary ethical challenges and risks confronting engineering professionals in a typical workplace setting. Case scenarios, based on real situations, will be shared to illustrate themes. Recommended actions to mitigate unethical behavior will also be discussed.

As Director of Ethics and Compliance for the Northrop Grumman Mission Systems Sector,
Ms. Davis supports leadership to enhance a work environment of shared values, high ethical
standards, and compliance with laws, policies, and procedures. She is responsible for global
ethics policy, communications and training, and the Ethics OpenLine reporting and investigations process for the sector. Ms. Davis also chairs the sector Ethics Committee.
Ms. Davis has progressed through a number of business and program management positions with increased responsibility, including Manager of Business Operations for Advanced Commercial Systems, Manager of Information Security, and Manager of Security Services.

Ms. Davis completed her Ph.D. course work at the University of Maryland. She received a
Master of Science from Central Michigan University, and earned a Master of Science and
a Bachelor of Science, summa cum laude, from the University of Baltimore.
Ms. Davis has served as an instructor in finance for ES University and assistant professor at the University of Baltimore. She was appointed Chair of the Security Sub-Committee of the
National Defense Industries Association, and she served on the Executive Boards for
American Defense Preparedness Association – Security Technology Division and National
Defense Industries Association – Procurement Policy Committee.
Ms. Davis represents Northrop Grumman to the Ethics and Compliance Council of Manufacturers Alliance/MAPI and Institute of Business Ethics. She is the sector representative to the Defense Industry Initiative on Business Ethics and
Conduct and the Ethics and Compliance Officers Association.

Ms. Davis is widely published and recognized for her contributions to the development of values driven ethics and compliance programs. She has collaborated with The Center for the
Study of Professional Military Ethics and Institute of Business Ethics (IBE), and she currently serves on the Board of Directors for the University of Baltimore, Hoffberger Center for Professional Ethics and the Board of Trustees for Living Classrooms Foundation.
