INTELLIGENT INFORMATION SYSTEM FOR SMART CONSTRUCTION

Humans are moving quickly towards a digital era, with profound implications
for our built environment. According to the Construction 2025 report,
the major challenge confronting the construction industry is how to
embrace digital technology progress of integrating project process and
team to meet the demand of a rapidly changing world. In this seminar, Dr.
Du will introduce his research in the area of intelligent information system
for the design, engineering and construction of built environments. More
specifically, he will share his recent projects about innovative ways of using
digital technologies to model and visualize increasingly complex construction
data for collaborative design, engineering and construction. Examples
include Internet of Things (IoTs), Virtual Reality, simulation, and
cognitive processes pertaining to the use of engineering information. By
putting construction information in a visual context for the entire project
team, Dr.Du’s research is expected to promoting transparency in project
execution and helping project teams better plan, coordinate, and communicate
to achieve the engineering, economic, and environmental goals.

Biography
Dr. Eric Jing Du is an assistant professor in the Department of Construction
Science at Texas A&M University (TAMU). Before joining TAMU
in 2015, he was a senior data analyst at Zachry Industrial in San Antonio,
TX. He has 15 years of research and teaching experience in the areas of
civil engineering, data science, and computer simulation. As an active researcher
at TAMU, Dr.Du focuses on smart information technologies for
the next generation construction industry, and aims to tackle engineering
problems of significance to industry and society. Dr. Du’s research has
been funded by a variety of agencies, including National Science Foundation
(NSF), US Department of Transportation (US DOT), Zachry, and Fiatech.
He is also the receiver of many scholarly awards, including the
2015 Best Paper Award from ASCE Journal of Construction Engineering
and Management. Dr.Du received his PhD degree in Construction Management
from Michigan State University in 2012.
