SUMMARY:Chemical Engineering - Mark Orazem PhD.\, Last Lecture &amp\; Recep
 tion Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Please join us in celebrating the distinguished career of Dr. M
ark Orazem\, a renowned expert in electrochemical impedance spectroscopy a
nd Distinguished Professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of Fl
orida.\nDr. Orazem will reflect on his career\, sharing insights into his
journey in academia\, his passion for teaching\, and the experiences that
shaped his research and professional path.\nThursday\, April 23\, 2026\n4:
00 PM -6:00PM\nReitz Union\, Room 3315\nA reception with dinner will follo
w at the Arredondo Café.\nWe hope you will join us for this special occas
ion honoring Dr. Orazem’s remarkable contributions.\nSpeaker: Mark Oraze
m\, PhD\nTitle: How I got Here. And What I Learned Along the Way.\nAbstrac
t: In this presentation\, I will explore my origins\, the factors that con
vinced me to become a professor\, and the approach I took to build my care
er. Looking back\, I see that I received my love of teaching from my paren
ts. My father was a professor\, and my mother taught high-school math. I w
ill describe the five-year plans I used to orient my career\, my consultin
g activities\, and how my consulting work fed my research funding and insp
ired me to revamp our chemical process safety course. I will also introduc
 e how I became addicted to writing books. It’s been a good run\, and I a
m grateful to my students\, my colleagues\, and my family who helped me al
ong the way.\nBio: Mark Orazem is a recognized expert on electrochemical i
mpedance spectroscopy. He is a Distinguished Professor of Chemical Enginee
ring\, the William P. and Tracy Cirioli Professor of Chemical Engineering\
, and Associate Chair for Graduate Studies. Prof. Orazem is a Fellow of th
e Electrochemical Society\, the International Society of Electrochemistry\
, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He served a
s President of the International Society of Electrochemistry and co-author
ed\, with Bernard Tribollet of the CNRS in Paris\, a textbook entitled Ele
ctrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy\, now in its second edition. Their new
book\, Problem Solving in Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy: Methods
\, Data Analysis and Case Studies\, will be published by Wiley in May. Pro
 f. Orazem received the Henry B. Linford Award of the Electrochemical Socie
ty\, the Electrochemical Society Corrosion Division H. H. Uhlig Award\, an
 d with his co-author Bernard Tribollet\, the 2019 Claude Gabrielli Award f
or contributions to electrochemical impedance spectroscopy.
