Title: The Use of Smart Wearable Sensors in Health Care & Occupational Injury Prevention
Abstract: My primary research interest is in identifying pathways that influence and improve human health. As for an approach to this research, I utilize a systems framework, which is driven by design of tools with the goal of improving human well-being and system performance. The primary outcome of this line of research is the prevention of work-related injuries and musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). I use research study designs that are both observational/descriptive in nature and experimental. The designs are applied in both laboratory and real-world environments. In this talk, I will share information on some of my completed projects and future research directions in the area.

Title: Understanding User Interactions with Emerging Technologies in Safety Critical Domains
Abstract: The pervasive use of automation and ubiquitous computing has increased our exposure to technology-mediated information. However, the interaction strategies that users choose when provided with these novel information sources may not be appropriate and can lead to detrimental or unsafe behavior. The overarching goal of my research is to design systems that minimize inappropriate use of new and emerging technologies in safety critical systems. Specifically, this talk will highlight my research into understanding and addressing these concerns through projects dealing with decision-aids in medical dispatch and smartwatches in driving, along with future research directions.
