MSE Seminar: What Map?
3:45 pm-5:00 pm
Join the Department of Materials Science and Engineering for light refreshments and a discussion with Dr. Eva Heintz of Solvay Specialty Polymers.
Dr. Heintz took a non-academic path that is contradictory to the expectation of many young students. Dr. Heintz is an immigrant from China who was steered towards the medical industry since childhood. Despite this clear direction, her passion for science, guided by her intuitions, led her directly into an industrial setting. She began as a scientist for a nanotechnology startup and then moved to Procter and Gamble. Going from startup to a behemoth was a fantastic challenge and motivation for her career. Over the last 11 years with Solvay, Dr. Heintz has let her career “compass” guide her from lab to marketing with many rewarding roles along the way. Her career map has revealed itself in stages, allowing her to deeply explore each new opportunity while also trusting the next right role to appear. Today, her question is no longer, “What is the right path?” and instead, “what cool thing will I do tomorrow”?
