About the Speaker: Dr. Doreen Kobelo is an Associate Professor of the Construction/Civil Engineering Technology at Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University. Her primary research interest is on traffic operation and safety, automation in the transportation system which involves Intelligent Transportation Systems. Dr. Kobelo has also been working with minorities in the STEM fields and for the past 7 years she has been hosting a National Summer Transportation Institute (NSTI) for High School students, which is funded by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) through the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) which has been giving students an opportunity to learn about transportation-related careers. Dr. Kobelo has co-authored 20 articles in technical journals and conferences in the areas of traffic safety, traffic operations and education in the engineering field. In her less busy time, she enjoys ballroom and Latin dancing and singing for her church choir where she is the choir director.
