UF is one of four academic institutions tasked with building scientific capacities and seeking solutions for the effects of environmental changes on human health.

UF scientists are asking the question: Why do people experience pain differently? The answer may be found in a surprising place: valuable human tissue that would otherwise be thrown away after surgery.

Led by the Warren B. Nelms Institute, a three-year, $1M University of Florida project is teaching veterans how to hack into computer systems in order to prepare them for cybersecurity work.

A team led by three ECE Florida faculty members is set to receive $6.6M from DARPA to design and fabricate dynamic pressure sensors capable of performing at temperatures upwards of 800 °C (1472 °F), over a factor of 6X higher than any integrated pressure sensor currently in use.

A joint project between the University of Florida and Synhelion, a global pioneer in the field of carbon-neutral solar fuels, has been awarded $2.7M from the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Energy Technologies Office (SETO). The project aims to accelerate the large-scale development and deployment of concentrating solar thermal power (CSP) technology to produce green hydrogen for industrial decarbonization and electric power generation and storage.

The U.S. Department of Energy has announced $40 million in funding for 15 projects that will develop high-performance, energy efficient cooling solutions for data centers.

The NSF has selected a team of scientists from the University of Florida and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign to lead a $20 million institute to advance artificial intelligence to promote STEM education.
