They are a department well adapted to solving complex, real-life problems – often before our society realizes it has them – and they are growing in numbers and in strength. They include some of the brightest academic leaders in the country in the areas of cybersecurity, biometrics, and informatics – and their highly sought-after students.
In his recent article for the Gainesville Sun, reporter Jeff Schweers talks to the Human Centered Computing (HCC) division of the UF Department of Computer & Information Science & Engineering (CISE). Across all engineering disciplines, computer science is the most sought-after major in today’s job market, with the highest starting-salaries, among public and private employers. And HCC – a computer science specialization that can engineer everyday experiences with things like transportation, voting or educational environments to be safer, smarter and more widely accessible – is a top priority at the UF College of the Engineering. It’s listed in the UF Preeminence Plan as a strategic research area, and as such has been supported in ushering in a new wave of talent.
