The University of Florida American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Student Chapter has been awarded the 2016 ASCE Distinguished Chapter Award for Region 5. This award is made annually to the most outstanding organization in each region based on contributions, engagement and activities in the previous year.
In 2015, UF ASCE made history by winning national titles in both the National Student Steel Bridge Competition and National Concrete Canoe Competition. This feat made UF the first and only school to win both titles in the same year. The team also nabbed the 2015 ASCE Sustainable Development Award at the Environmental Protection Agency’s P3 (People, Prosperity, and the Planet) Competition for their economical and sustainable design for wastewater management.
The UF chapter is part of Region 5, which represents ASCE groups from Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana. The ASCE is a national network of civil engineers and is recognized as the oldest national professional engineering society in the United States.
