This is an honor bestowed upon AAAS members by their peers based on their distinguished efforts to advance science or its applications.<\/p>\n<p>Congratulations to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Cammy Abernathy, PhD<\/strong>, dean of the College of Engineering; for distinguished contributions to the fields of materials, industrial science and engineering through professional efforts in research, teaching and administration in industry and academia.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Wolfgang Sigmund, PhD<\/strong>, materials science professor in the College of Engineering; for distinguished contributions to synthesis and processing techniques of nanomaterials, particularly demonstrating that ceramic nanofibers can be made via electrospinning.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This year, 401 Fellows were honored by AAAS, the world\u2019s largest general scientific society. AAAS is also the publisher of the journal Science, as well as Science Translational Medicine, and Science Signaling. The nonprofit organization was founded in 1848, and includes 261 affiliated societies and academies of science, serving 10 million individuals.
