{"id":19730,"date":"2016-07-07T12:21:34","date_gmt":"2016-07-07T16:21:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.eng.ufl.edu\/?p=19730"},"modified":"2025-06-11T12:33:05","modified_gmt":"2025-06-11T17:33:05","slug":"uf-engineering-dean-recognized-nationally-for-commitment-to-safety","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.eng.ufl.edu\/news\/honors-awards\/uf-engineering-dean-recognized-nationally-for-commitment-to-safety\/","title":{"rendered":"UF Engineering dean recognized nationally for commitment to safety"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Cammy Abernathy, the dean of the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering, has been selected by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cshema.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Campus Safety Health and Environment Management Association<\/a>, or CSHEMA, for its \u201cCampus Leaders Who Care\u201d award. This honor recognizes senior leaders who have made significant contributions to the advancement of environmental, health and safety standards in their institutions.<\/p>\n<p>Dean Abernathy pioneered several safety policies that have earned her this distinction. Under her leadership, Engineering became the first college on the UF campus \u2013 and one of the first in the country \u2013 to hire a full-time safety officer.
