Advisor<\/strong>: David Kaplan, Ph.D.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Born and raised in Richmond, Va., Jackson graduated from Virginia Tech in 2020 with a degree in Biological Sciences. She started at the University of Florida in 2021 to pursue a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering, focusing on wetland soil carbon. In addition to her research, she is dedicated to science communication and fostering collaboration as a student at the H.T. Odum Center for Wetlands. She also is a UF Water Institute ambassador. She loves exploring Florida\u2019s natural areas and collaborating on interdisciplinary research projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5 questions for graduate student Alexis \u201cAJ\u201d Jackson<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
    \n
  1. What did you want to be growing up?<\/strong>
    An actress or surgeon.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. What is the most interesting project you have worked on at UF?<\/strong>
    Being the Florida crew leader for the Environmental Protection Agency\u2019s National Wetland Condition Assessment in 2021. I got to travel to over 50 sites across Florida, and there was no better way to be introduced to this beautiful state.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Where do you see yourself in 10 years?<\/strong>
    Successful and happy somewhere doing research and science communication. I see myself wearing many hats in the future. My main career, I am still settling on, but I know I\u2019ll be doing many things.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. What are you reading, watching or listening to?<\/strong>
    Reading: \u201cAtlas: The Story of Pa Salt\u201d by Harry Whittaker and Lucinda Riley.
    Watching: Reruns of \u201cLiving Single\u201d and \u201cRebel Ridge.\u201d
    Listening to: \u201cMEGAN: ACT II\u201d by Megan the Stallion, \u201cGNX\u201d by Kendrick Lamar and \u201cCowboy Carter\u201d by Beyonce<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. What is something most people do not know about you?<\/strong>
    I love board games. My favorite is Wingspan, but I also love Daybreak and Trails.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
