The topic for discussion will be the potential to follow on
the near success of the NSF Center for Autonomic Neural Engineering
(CANE) proposal with a new NSF Engineering Research Center proposal
focused on the topic of Neurotechnology for Pain, Addiction, and
Respiration in the context of the opioid epidemic. Since a first meeting
on this topic was held back in early May, we have submitted a small
proposal in response to their new NSF ERC planning grant opportunity.
The goal of the meeting will be to share information and discuss possible
approaches, stakeholders to engage, and steps to take to have the
strongest possible application going forward from our community.
I will welcome the discussion of other potential center opportunities
that we could potentially work toward collectively. I would also like
a short discussion of the state of training grants in areas related to our
group at UF (and thus the possibility of opportunities for creating
additional training grants).
