Abbas obtained his B.S. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) focused in Electronic Circuits with a minor in Chemistry at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. Abbas’ research interests include wearable and implantable biomedical systems and nanoscale devices for low-cost point-of-care (POC) biomarker detection.

He has had undergraduate research experience at Rutgers with Dr. Mehdi Javanmard developing a wearable lock-in amplifier on a flexible circuit board for microfluidic cytometry which was published to a scientific journal. He has also performed summer research at (1) Georgia Tech under the 2015 National Nanotechnology Infrastructure Network (NNIN) research experiences for undergraduates (REU) program, presenting his work with Dr. Shannon Yee on 3-Omega based gas sensing at Cornell University and (2) a systems engineering internship with the Office of Naval Research (ONR) at the Navy/Airforce (NAVAIR) base in Lakehurst, New Jersey. In addition, Abbas has served as President of the Rutgers Makerspace Club student organization for 2 years.

Abbas will become a graduate researcher within the Interdisciplinary Microsystems Group (IMG) and the ECE Department at the University of Florida. Abbas is working with Dr. Jack Judy to develop micro-fabricated implantable peripheral nerve interfaces for prosthetic limb control.
