NanoDay 2024

NanoDay 2024

National Nanotechnology Day (NanoDay) is an annual event across the nation that

  • celebrates nanoscale science, engineering, and technology,NanoDay 2024 Logo
  • recognizes researchers advancing each of these fields,
  • applauds innovators translating nanoscale research into valuable products / services,
  • increases awareness of the potential for nanoscale research to positively impact lives.

Each year NIMET and the Research Service Centers (RSC) organize stimulating, educational, and social events that take place on or near NanoDay (Oct 9th: 10^-9). Although all NanoDay events are open to everyone, we encourage those involved in nanoscale research and workforce development to come and share their ideas, efforts, advances and discoveries. The research presented at NanoDay typically includes the following wide range of topics (and beyond):

Nano-Electronics Nano-Materials Nano-Biology Nano-Fluidics
Nano-Mechanics Nano-Particles Nano-Medicine Nano-Agriculture
Nano-Photonics Nano-Chemistry Nano-Dentistry Nano-Physics

Monday, Oct 9th, 2024:

The Research Service Center (RSC) will host an Open House at the Nanoscale Research Facility (NRF) (map) that features:

  • Meet RSC Engineers
  • NRF Lab Tours
  • Instrumentation Demonstrations/Webinars
  • Nanoscale Image Contest.

NIMET will host the following activities also in the Nanoscale Research Facility:

  • Alumni Awards
  • Keynote Presentations
  • Student Presentations
  • Group Photo
  • Nanotech Industry Panel
  • Poster Session
  • Best-Poster Awards

Register for NanoDay 2024:

To participate in the NanoDay events, we ask that everyone complete a free registration form by Wednesday, Oct 2nd. Doing so helps us to plan for food and other items that will make for a more successful event.

Submit a Poster:

We encourage all UF students, postdocs, fellows, and faculty engaged in research at the nanoscale to contribute to the technical program. To participate in the NanoDay poster session and (if desired) be considered for a student presentation slot, we ask that you submit an poster using this form by Wednesday, Oct 2nd. We request that posters be vertically oriented and sized to fit on our 40″ x 30″ posterboards. We also provide an optional template for students to use. Additional guidelines for the poster session and getting your poster printed are available.

Apply for a Student Talk:

We also encourage any UF student or postdoc that would like to give a talk to apply for one of slots by filling out this application by Wednesday, Sep 25th.

Image Contest:

If you have an amazing, mysterious, or funny image of something at the nanoscale or microscale (or is at least related to research at the nanoscale), please consider submitting it to our image contest! To submit an image, use this form and read the guidelines by Friday, Oct 4th.

Students – Join the NNC:

We encourage all undergraduate and graduate students interested in nanoscience, nanotechnology, and nanoengineering to join the Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Club (NNC)JOIN HERE

We look forward to seeing many of you at this great annual event and hope you will encourage your peers and colleagues to participate in this celebration of UF nanoscale science, engineering, and technology research activities and resources.

Co-Sponsors of NanoDay 2024:

This year NanoDay will be co-sponsored by the:

  • Florida Semiconductor Institute (FSI), which serves as a statewide hub for research, development, innovation, and workforce initiatives focused on cutting-edge semiconductor technologies. FSI expertise spans emerging materials, chip design, process development, microsystems, heterogeneous integration, advanced packaging, and cybersecurity.
  • UF Interdisciplinary Microsystems Group (IMG), which is one of the largest and most active research groups doing working on advanced microscale and nanoscale science, engineering, and technology. Integrated into the annual nanotechnology presentation, industry panel, and poster session, will be a number of participants from IMG.
