Through his coursework and extracurricular involvement in various university organizations, Zietler is demonstrating the mindset of the <strong>New Engineer<\/strong> and has expanded his knowledge base to leading-edge AI and machine learning technologies.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cAndreas is part of a team of undergraduate students who are continuing our recently published work on a deep learning model to help neurology clinicians predict the influence of electrical stimulation of deep brain stimulation (DBS),\u201d says the University of Florida Electrical and Computer Engineering Instructor, Dr. Erin Patrick.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&nbsp;Zeitler also uses UF\u2019s supercomputer (HiperGator) to run simulations and work closely with faculty in the Neurology department at UF College of Medicine.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image wp-image-9507 size-medium\">\n<figure class=\"alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"239\" src=\"https:\/\/www.eng.ufl.edu\/sarasota\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/189\/2023\/12\/Andreas-Zeitler_electric-bike-1-300x239.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9507\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.eng.ufl.edu\/sarasota\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/189\/2023\/12\/Andreas-Zeitler_electric-bike-1-300x239.png 300w, https:\/\/www.eng.ufl.edu\/sarasota\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/189\/2023\/12\/Andreas-Zeitler_electric-bike-1.png 579w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Courtesy of ABC7, the local station in Sarasota<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">As a freshman, Andreas enrolled in engineering classes at Suncoast Polytechnical High School but was hardly a newbie. He had been tinkering with hands-on work since middle school, where he was introduced to Arduino circuits. By the time he was a senior, he was constructing his <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mysuncoast.com\/2022\/05\/20\/engineering-students-showcase-projects-suncoast-polytechnical-high-school\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">electric bike<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&nbsp;for his final class project before graduating in May 2022.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">After settling in at UF, he has had a chance to reflect on what keeps him inspired, \u201cThe quality of the people and the opportunities.\u201d Andreas feels well prepared for the courses to come but admits the transition came with a learning curve, \u201cTake a lot more notes earlier on.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The problem-solving skills and perseverance he is embracing as an engineering student are proving to be valuable in other aspects of his life. \u201cThings don\u2019t always go as planned, so you must be flexible and keep your end goal in mind.\u201d His openness to change will serve as a leadership quality as he pursues internship opportunities in Sarasota.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">For information on how to partner with the&nbsp;<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.eng.ufl.edu\/sarasota\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">UF Innovation Station<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&nbsp;for engineering interns, contact Ann Marie Chupa at&nbsp;<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"mailto:amchupa@eng.ufl.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">amchupa@eng.ufl.edu<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Second-year&nbsp;University of Florida student Andreas Zeitler combined a strong foundation in engineering in high school with critical tracking courses at State College of Florida to reach his goal of majoring in electrical engineering at UF in Gainesville.
