UF at Kyoto University – Cross Cultural Engineering

Summer C: June 12th – Aug 6th, 2022

About the program

UF at Kyoto University – Cross Cultural Engineering is an eight-week program that allows undergraduate students to focus on cross-cultural engineering and design practices while exploring the rich history and culture of Japan. In addition to traditional coursework, students will participate in site visits to engineering firms to learn about the design and engineering of Japanese transportation systems, software and games, and manufacturing. There will also be excursions to locations where cross-cultural engineering is put into practice. Students will learn about the cutting-edge research being conducted at local universities and have the opportunity to build and foster professional international connections through industry visits.

Kyoto is one of Japan’s largest cities and represents a unique mixture of history, tradition, and modernity. Although throughout its history Kyoto has been destroyed by many wars and fires, it escaped complete destruction during WWII. Countless temples, shrines, and other historically priceless structures survive in the city today, including the Fushimi Inari Shrine (pictured right) and Kinkaku-ji – the ‘Golden Pavillion’.
