Catalog Description: Provides firsthand, supervised research with a faculty advisor or postdoctoral or graduate student mentor. Projects may involve inquiry, design, investigation, scholarship, discovery, or application.
Prerequisite: Department permission

Students doing research with faculty on the UF campus should not be volunteers because of liability and accountability concerns. You must be either enrolled in an undergraduate research course or be paid hourly as OPS. This requirement is for all semesters that you work in a lab (fall, spring, summer)

If you are…

  • An HWCOE student working in an HWCOE lab
    • Work with your department advisor to enroll in your department’s EGN4912 section
  • An exploratory or non-engineering student working in an HWCOE lab
    • You should register for EGN4912 in the department where your faculty mentor resides for your undergraduate research project
  • An HWCOE student working in a lab outside of HWCOE
    • You should register in that College’s equivalent undergraduate research course

How many credits should I register for?

EGN4912 is a variable credit course. At minimum, students must enroll in 0 credits of EGN4912. You can enroll in more credits depending on how many hours a week you are working. Your department’s academic advisor will help you enroll in the course. Your academic advisor will also work with you to determine if these research credits can be used to satisfy any of your degree requirements. Please note there may be a financial cost associated with increasing the number of credits enrolled.
