The Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce honored Dr. Winfred Phillips last month with their Legacy Award. Phillips was acknowledged for being a “game changer” for the University of Florida, a key catalyst in shaping UF’s role as an innovator.

Phillips is both a professor of mechanical engineering and the Don and Ruth Eckis Professor of Biomedical Engineering. He served as dean of both the College of Engineering and the Graduate School. He was vice president of research before taking his current position as senior vice president and chief operating officer of the university, and the president of the University of Florida Research Foundation.

“Dr. Win Phillips has been fundamental in putting our community in a position to capitalize on innovation, creativity and talent,” said Tim Giuliani, President & CEO of the Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce during the award presentation. “While his work at the University of Florida certainly speaks for itself, it is his singular ability to intertwine the destinies of UF, Santa Fe College, our community’s top leaders, our region’s elected and appointed officials, and the business community that distinguishes his lifetime body of work.”
