Mr. Augustine is one of the nation’s premier technology leaders having served in both the private and public sectors as CEO and chairman of Martin Marietta and Lockheed Martin, as well as Under Secretary of the Army, and later Acting Secretary of the Army. He has been recognized for his outstanding contributions with the National Medal of Technology and the Joint Chiefs of Staff Distinguished Public Service Award. Mr. Augustine has also served as Chairman of the National Academy of Engineering and is a former president of the Boy Scouts of America. He is a Regent of the University System of Maryland, Trustee Emeritus of Johns Hopkins and a former member of the Board of Trustees of Princeton and MIT. He is an internationally recognized expert in the area of technology workforce development and led the 2005 National Academies commission that produced the landmark report, Rising Above the Gathering Storm: Energizing and Employing America for a Brighter Economic Future.

The lecture will be followed by a panel discussion focused on the topic of fostering university-industry collaborations to enhance economic development through expansion of the knowledge economy.
