The University of Florida, in partnership with IBM, is calling on the country’s brightest minds to join a virtual innovation challenge aimed at addressing the Sunshine State’s most pressing conservation issues. Innovators of all experience levels are invited to join the IBM Data Science Community by participating in the Florida Hacks with IBM hackathon, an event where students will be asked to help combat the significant observable effects occurring in the environment.

Vladimir Rakov, Ph.D., professor in ECE and co-director of the International Center for Lightning Research & Testing (ICLRT) has been awarded a $1M grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) for his project, “Lightning Studies Based on Measurements Spanning the Ranges from Radio Frequency to Optical (including Infrared and Ultraviolet) to Gamma-Rays.”

Duke Energy is investing $100,000 in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering to create the Energy Sustainability, Technology and Resiliency Testing Hub and Certificate Program.
