A cross-department research team from the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering has earned the American Concrete Institute’s Wason Medal for Materials Research for developing concrete composites designed to improve radiation shielding in nuclear facilities.

Thanks to a $1 million gift from Samaritan Biologics and its co-founders, Distinguished Professor Wesley E. Bolch, Ph.D., has been named the inaugural Chang & Szalay Samaritan Biologics Endowed Professor in Biomedical Engineering.

Of the 2,500 National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowships awarded this academic year, 16 winners were Gator engineers from the University of Florida’s Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering.

The prestigious University of Florida Academy of Distinguished Teaching Scholars (ADTS) has a notable new member: Douglas E. Spearot, Ph.D., the interim chair of the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. 

The University of Florida Research Foundation (UFRF) recently named 34 of the university’s most productive and promising faculty members as UFRF Professors for 2026. 

The Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering on Thursday presented its annual awards to faculty, staff and students for the 2025-2026 academic year. These awards celebrate the excellence and fundamental values of our college. 

The Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering this week honored four staff members and one faculty member with Superior Accomplishment Awards for their positive impact on engineering students.
