The University of Florida Transportation Institute (UFTI) has formed a strategic partnership with leading traffic solutions software company, Urban SDK to expand its I-STREETTM Program to enhance collaboration with local governments and technology startups.

The University of Florida Transportation Institute (UFTI), housed in the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering, announced the grand opening of its I-STREET™ Living Lab, which will connect surrounding roadway networks on the UF campus, the COG, and across the state using cutting-edge technologies.

University of Florida Transportation Institute (UFTI), in collaboration with the Florida Department of Transportation and campus and city partners, will study a suite of emerging technologies that can save lives by providing timely warnings to drivers and pedestrians about one another — before an encounter becomes fatal.

A University of Florida Transportation Institute (UFTI) study funded by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) found that advanced communication technologies and vehicle on-board units (OBUs) are effective in increasing driver awareness. These technologies provide information to drivers regarding their surroundings, such as the presence of pedestrians and traffic signal information.

Starting Feb. 3, Gainesville residents will be able to board an autonomous shuttle for test rides between downtown Gainesville and the University of Florida campus. The pilot project is part of the I-STREET real-world testbed, a partnership between the University of Florida Transportation Institute (UFTI), the Florida Department of Transportation, and the City of Gainesville.

The driverless shuttle between UF and downtown Gainesville will be the nation’s first, mixed-traffic, regularly operating autonomous shuttle service.
