When a team of researchers from the University of Florida unveiled new technology that allows someone to hack into a nearby touchscreen-enabled device using what they call an “invisible finger,” those in the field of cybersecurity took notice.

Insight Into Diversity magazine has named the University of Florida as a recipient of the 2022 Higher Education Excellence in Diversity Award. The award measures the efforts made by universities to expand upon diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI). The award also assesses the initiatives, student recruitment and hiring practices at an institution.

The University of Florida’s Eckhoff Steel Bridge team placed first in the American Institute of Steel Construction’s (AISC) Student Steel Bridge National Competition for the second year in a row. The competition was hosted by Virginia Tech on May 27 and 28, 2022, with more than 140 participating schools internationally.

Building on an already strong reputation as one of the top public universities in America, the UF Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering is now ranked No. 23 overall among public universities by U.S. News & World Report (USNWR), moving up one spot since the magazine’s assessment of “Best Graduate Schools” last year, and has earned high marks from industry leaders looking for top-shelf engineering talent.

The University of Florida announced a new collaboration with tech giant IBM to launch a comprehensive skills program designed to extend UF’s vision to be an international leader in artificial intelligence, data science, fintech, and other related technologies that can help solve society’s biggest challenges.
