Amirreza Saffarian, a third-year Ph.D. student in Industrial and Systems Engineering, develops optimization models to protect Florida’s wildlife, including the Florida panther. Originally from Iran, he’s earned top academic honors and enjoys hiking, soccer, and exploring new cultures.

University of Florida Professor Iris V. Rivero, Ph.D., the Paul and Heidi Brown preeminent chair of Industrial and Systems Engineering, has been named a fellow with the prestigious Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME).

Juan E. Gilbert, Ph.D., and David Kaber, Ph.D., have been named Fellows of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

The University Term Professorship was established in 2016 and is presented to 250 eligible faculty members annually. Selection of the professorships is based on an assessment of academic accomplishment by either a faculty advisory committee and/or the department chair and approved by the dean of the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering.

The University Term Professorship was established in 2016 and is presented to 250 eligible faculty members annually. Selection of University Term Professorships is based on an assessment of academic accomplishment by either a faculty advisory committee and/or the department chair and approved by the dean. Each award runs for 3 years and provides a $5,000/year salary supplement to the awardee.

The UF Student Chapter of the Institute for Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE) recently received the 2018 Gold Chapter Award, which is the highest honor in the IISE University Chapter Recognition Program.

David Kaber, Ph.D., an expert in the area human-systems engineering, will lead UF ISE starting July 2018.
