On October 3, we proudly welcome Dr. Herbert “Herbie” Wertheim back to campus as we celebrate 10 years of the Wertheim Transformation. Since our college was renamed in his honor on October 1, 2015, Dr. Wertheim’s visionary $50 million gift has created a legacy that inspires pride in how far we’ve come, and excitement for how far we’ll go.  

The Wertheim Transformation is more than a chapter in our history — it’s a living legacy written by one extraordinary individual whose belief in people, education, and possibility has reshaped engineering at the University of Florida.

The University of Florida’s Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering celebrated the opening of its Laboratory for Engineering Excellence on Thursday, October 7, 2021.

The dedication ceremony for the Herbert Wertheim Laboratory for Engineering Excellence takes place October 7, 2021 at 11 a.m. ET.

Dr. Walden “Wally” Rhines, son of the founding chair of the UF Department of Materials Science & Engineering (MSE) Dr. Frederick N. Rhines, is providing an endowment for a professorship in fully homomorphic encryption (FHE), a field in which Cornami, Inc., the AI company of which he is President and CEO, holds a leading edge position.
