Space Allocation and Analysis

Space Allocation and Analysis

What is Space Allocation?

Space allocation is our process of cataloging, organizing, and documenting aspects of room use, department, and occupancy each year.

Why Do We Perform Space Allocation?

There are a few key reasons we perform space allocation:

  • Precise room details help The University create the Facilities and Administrative (FnA) Rate Proposal that is prepared for the federal government.
  • Space Allocation helps the Dean, Chairs and staff visualize how efficiently the college’s space is used.
  • Spacial Analysis across buildings helps the University develop, update, and organize budgets.
  • The Space Allocation process provides data to help the college make decisions regarding future space planning and allocations.

What is STARS?

STARS (Space Tracking & Reporting System) is an aggregated visualization and planning tool derived from many different university databases. It is a web-based internet application that contains abundant data regarding UF sites and buildings. This information includes but is not limited to:

  • square footage
  • room usage and department usage summaries
  • room occupants and departments
  • detailed floor plans
  • building addresses
  • construction details

What is SPIN?

SPIN (Space Inventory and Allocation System) is a web-based internet application where Space Certification and Space Authorization take place. It contains information about space utilization at UF, including:

  • room occupancy
  • room usage/allocations
  • room departments
  • assets
  • projects

Click Here to log onto SPIN. This is a credentialed login, and access to SPIN is typically restricted to space authorizers and certifiers. Please contact your department administrator if you feel you should have access to SPIN.
