Using Shark Teeth to Teach AI

A team from the University of Florida’s Thompson Earth Systems Institute (TESI), the College of Education and the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering will partner with the Calvert Marine Museum in Maryland on a three-year, $1.3 million project funded by the National Science Foundation to teach Florida middle school teachers and students how to use artificial intelligence (AI) to identify fossil shark teeth.

Engineering Education Department Chair Leads The Processional

Nothing says comeback like the return to in-person commencement ceremonies this spring, and Dr. Hans van Oostrom was happily super busy as Chief Marshal, leading the 26 processionals that marked the graduation festivities. In 2020, in-person commencement ceremonies had to be cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but this year those graduates were also invited back to join in the festivities.

UF Adds Fully Dedicated Engineering Education Department to Engineering College
