Inaugural Florida Engineering Dean’s Summit takes place in Tallahassee on August 3-4, 2023

The leadership from nearly all of Florida’s engineering schools will converge on Tallahassee this week to discuss issues of common interest. Dubbed the Florida Engineering Dean’s Summit (FEDS), the event is envisioned as an annual event where academic leaders can explore solutions for shared problems and develop joint initiatives.

SECME supports the changing face and future of engineering

In June, the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering hosted the 46th annual Southeastern Conference for Minority Engineers (SECME) competition for middle and high school students from the Southeast region of the U.S. Participants from schools in Texas, Alabama, and Florida gathered on UF’s campus for SECME’s first in-person competition since 2019.

UF launches Hurricane Hub to mark start of 2023 Atlantic hurricane season

UF launched its Hurricane Hub, which houses a variety of resources for residents and members of the media. The collection of information includes storm preparation tips, news about the latest in hurricane research, and a list of experts available to provide insight to journalists.

The National Retail Federation (NRF) has announced its recognition of outstanding loss prevention professionals for the 2023 NRF PROTECT Awards. Among the esteemed honorees is Read Hayes, Ph.D., a University of Florida research scientist and director of the UF SaferPlaces Laboratory.

J. Crayton Pruitt Family Department of Biomedical Engineering announces new chair

The Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering has selected Dr. Cherie Stabler as the new chair of the J. Crayton Family Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME). Stabler, Ph.D., is the Integra LifeSciences & UF Foundation Preeminence Term Professor in BME. She will succeed Dr. Christine Schmidt, who led the department since 2013.
