This program provides an opportunity for students who major in engineering, construction management, history, Latin America studies, and other diverse fields to study abroad in Panama and see first-hand the impact of engineering works on society and the environment.
This project will use asynchronous videos and existing materials at the University of Florida Panama Canal Museum for 1-2 weeks before the in-country visit to educate students on Panamanian history, construction methods used in the canal construction, and societal impacts.
Students will learn about the biodiversity, economic, and societal circumstances present during the canal construction and impacts of the canal locally and globally on the society, economy, and environment, including the effects of climate change on canal operations.
