Welcome Message from Associate Dean of Students

Students, Parents, Families, and Future Gators,

Welcome to the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering Student Affairs Office. My name is Pamela Dickrell, and I am the Associate Dean of Students for the HWCOE. My goal is to support our Gator Engineering undergraduate students from admissions through graduation.

While you are a student here, you’ll be part of one of our engineering or computer science academic programs, earning a highly regarded technical degree. But Gator Engineering is much more than the sum of the courses you will take. Student Affairs is here to help you with an advising team of professional staff and engineering peer advisors who will support your transition to college, help you explore your passions and interests, and guide you in planning your journey so your technical career will be personally rewarding and impactful.

If you’re interested in expanding your global perspective, our engineering-specific International Programs office and faculty director can help you explore study abroad, research abroad, or internships abroad.

We also have a dedicated Center for Experiential Learning, where a faculty director can help you find student organizations and design teams to join, offering opportunities to participate in national design competitions, hackathons, and professional development activities. We can connect you with undergraduate research experiences to build your scientific knowledge, skills, and potential pathway to graduate or professional school, or pair you with industry internships that build real-world engineering experience and professional skills.

We know that the college journey can also present challenges. Part of success is learning to problem-solve along the way, and we are here to help you navigate both personal and professional growth during your time as a Gator Engineer.

I’ve been part of the UF College of Engineering since 1996, when I began as an undergraduate student in Mechanical Engineering. I’m a triple Gator, having earned my B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering here before becoming a faculty member. I’ve experienced this college as a student, faculty member, and now as a parent of a Gator Engineering student. As both an alumna and a mom, I am fully invested in creating the best possible experience for our students on their journey to becoming engineers.

Please reach out anytime with questions or ideas for improving the undergraduate student experience. I love hearing from our students and working together to create an environment where you can learn, grow, innovate, and truly thrive as a Gator Engineer.

Best wishes,
Pamela Dickrell, Ph.D.
