Scholarships & Financial Aid

Explore the funding opportunities available to Gator Engineers, whether you’re looking for merit-based scholarships, research stipends, external awards, or emergency financial resources. Our college and UF partners offer a variety of ways to help you achieve your academic goals.

UF engineering students can apply for academic scholarships through Scholarship Universe, the university’s centralized scholarship platform.

Eligibility
To apply, students must:

  • Be enrolled full-time (12+ credit hours) in the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering.
  • Maintain good academic standing.

Timeline

  • Fall – Application period to apply for Fall 2026-27 Academic Scholarships: October 31-November 28, 2025. Apply through Scholarship Universe.
  • Spring (January 2026) – Award notifications sent
  • Fall 2026 – Scholarships are disbursed after final add/drop date

2026–2027 scholarship essay prompts: 

Essay #1 (250 words max): Imagine the future of your chosen engineering discipline. What innovations do you foresee? How would those innovations impact society? How do you plan to contribute to these advancements?

Essay #2 (250 words max): Discuss a challenge you have faced on your path to pursuing an engineering degree. How did you overcome it, and how has that experience influenced your future aspirations?

The Fernandez Family Scholars and Pressly Scholars programs support undergraduate engineering students engaged in research. These programs offer:

  • $1,500 stipend (split across two semesters)
  • Research mentorship
  • Opportunities to present at local, state, and national conferences
  • Development of research and communication skills

Eligibility

  • Full-time UF engineering undergraduate student
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Interest in research and/or graduate studies in engineering

Requirements for Selected Students

  • Attend an orientation hosted by Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering Student Affairs
  • Enroll in EGN 4912: Engineering Undergraduate Research
  • Complete two consecutive semesters of research
  • Submit a summary of your proposed project (1 page max) as part of the application
  • Present at the UF Center for Undergraduate Research Symposium and/or the Florida Undergraduate Research Conference

Each spring, the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering honors exceptional students at the annual College Awards Banquet. Applications for student awards open every January following the winter break.

Gator Engineering Attribute Awards

These prestigious awards represent the highest honor bestowed upon students by the college. Open to all engineering students, regardless of graduation date, they recognize those who embody one of the six Gator Engineering Attributes:

These attributes serve as a model for all members of the Gator Engineering community.

These awards honor graduating seniors who have demonstrated academic excellence, leadership, service, and commitment to engineering values. Students graduating in Spring, Summer, or Fall of the current academic year are eligible.

  • Outstanding Four-Year Scholar – For a student who entered UF as a freshman.
  • Outstanding Two-Year Scholar – For a student who entered UF as a transfer student.
