Launch Your Career in Engineering
Majoring in engineering offers a path to a fulfilling career with high demand, competitive salaries, and diverse opportunities. It equips you with valuable problem-solving skills, technological knowledge, and the ability to make a tangible impact on society through innovation and design.
Picking a Major
So you’ve decided Engineering is the right College for you, but are unsure which engineering discipline to select. See below for details to help you make a decision.
- Complete a Self-Assessment followed by scheduling a Career Planning Appointment with a C3 Coach via Gator CareerLink
 - Carefully review EACH COURSE (both core required courses and technical elective options) for each major you are considering. Use the UF Catalog to see both the course title and course description.
Ask Yourself…For Each Major: Do these courses sound interesting? Do these courses align with my interests? Do these courses utilize my strengths? Will I thrive in this major? Does this major open doors to the career pathways I want to pursue?
If you are able to say yes to all or most of the above questions, that major is a good fit for you! - Consider enrolling in our course EGS1006 Introduction to Engineering, a 1-credit course where you get to learn about each HWCOE major on the UF campus.
 - Use Career Outlook Data (two links below) to inform which major will prepare you for your intended workforce

Recruitment Best Practices
Throughout the recruiting process, we encourage students to be communicative, responsive, and flexible when interacting with employers.
The HWCOE encourages employers to give students sufficient time to accept or reject the offer; however, it is the responsibility of students to confirm the employers’ expectations and notification dates. Additionally, students should notify all employers as soon as a decision is reached about job and internship offers.
See below recruitment best practices from the employer perspective, and use this information to guide when and how you act!
Fall semester recruiting (September – December)
Full-time job and internship offer: Please give students until November 15, or at least three weeks after extending an offer (whichever is later), to decide whether to accept full-time job and internship offers.
Internship converting to full-time job and returning internship offer: Please give students until September 15, or at least three weeks after extending an offer (whichever is later), to decide whether to accept the offers.
Example 1: Students who received full-time job offers after their summer internship on August 19th have until September 15th to decide whether to accept the offer.
Example 2: Students who received returning internship offers on September 6th will have until September 27th to decide whether to accept the offer.
Spring semester recruiting (January – April)
Full-time job and internship offer: Please give students until March 15, or at least three weeks after extending an offer (whichever is later), to decide whether to accept full-time job and internship offers.
Internship converting to full-time job and returning internship offer: Please give students until February 15, or at least three weeks after extending an offer (whichever is later), to decide whether to accept the offers.
Early Offers
Early offers: We recommend that employers extend offers no more than nine months prior to the start date of a full-time job and no more than six months prior to the start date of an internship. We encourage employers to engage with students throughout the year and check in about their recruiting and career exploration progress to ensure the students are still viable candidates. The offer timeline and response dates take effect once an official written offer is extended to the student. Verbal offers do not initiate the timeline.
