Engineering Innovation Institute to Present Lecture with Don McKinney

On Thursday, Sept. 13, the UF Engineering Innovation Institute will feature a lecture from International Network Services founder Don McKinney. The talk, entitled “Technology Entrepreneurship – Engineering The Future,” will be held in the New Engineering Building Room 102 at 9:45 a.m.

 

Don is a private investor focused on IT-Services, Internet and networking, software and related software-enabled services. He was the founder of International Network Services (INS, NASDAQ: “INSS”) and served as its Chairman until its sale to Lucent Technologies in 1999 for $3.7 billion. From the inception of INS in 1991 through 1995, he served as President and Chief Executive Officer and continued as CEO until 1998 when he elected to continue only as Chairman and focus his energies on Watershed Capital (private VC firm based in Santa Clara, CA). Prior to INS, Don was Vice President of Sales and Marketing of Electronic for Imaging, Inc. (Nasdaq:“EFII”) and worked at Sequoia Capital. Additionally, in the early 1980’s, Don was the Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Customer Service at Silicon Graphics, Inc. He later opened Silicon Graphics International operations and also served as General Manager of the OEM Subsystem Division. Don has held various Sales and Management positions at Chromatics (computer graphics, sold to Barco Electronics, NV) and IBM. Don previously served on the following boards: the Advisory Board for Broadview Capital Partners, C-Cube Microsystems (MPEG semiconductor co., sold to LSI Logic), Context Integration (web enabling software and services), Mixman Technologies (digital music appliance, sold to Beatnik), Tipping Point (hardware security for intrusion prevention, sold to 3COM), Aplicor (Chairman, private SaaS software company, Boca Raton, FLA), and Unbound Technologies (web data mining co.)

Don has a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and an MBA from the University of Florida, and has taken postgraduate accounting courses at Florida International University.

Don enjoys offshore and flyfishing, woodworking, and gardening.
